Racing News 18/3/19

The results keep coming and reiterates why it’s good to get some pre season races under your belt.

These races install confidence and allow for mistakes to happen with time to put right before the main events of the season. Last weekend saw Jack Strode step up to his first Half Marathon. Jack is in deep preparation for Ironman Marbella 70.3 and has seen some big progress over the winter months, so we wanted to test the legs at Liverpool Half Marathon. The target was sub 1:25 and in tough conditions, Jack excelled and finished in a very swift 1:22. Starting this weekend off was Sion, with a late entry into the Harlech Aquathon, Sion Has picked training back up after recovering from his great Half Marathon performance 2 weeks ago as was using the Aquathlon as a training hit out. Another impressive performance saw Sion come home with 2nd overall and an added bonus of the fastest run split. Parbold Duathlon was next up and both Fran Walker and Graham Rands were hungry to race after last weeks 2up Duathlon being cancelled. Fran was competitive throughout and executed her race strategy well to finish 2nd in age group and 8th overall. Graham Rands had a race strategy but due to an error of his own, he missed the start by 30 seconds which meant he was playing catch up against a very good field of athletes. The positives from this was he didn’t panic and showed great strength and fitness to work his was through to finish 5th overall.
